Limahl to hit us one more time

Wigan born pop star Limahl is back on prime-time TV!

The former Kajagoogoo frontman will sing live in a new knock-out competition for artists who had hits in the 70s,80s and 90s.

Limahl, real name Chris Hamill, is expected to belt out one of his classic hits before offering up his version of a current chart song before a public vote.

The 46-year-old, who was born in Pemberton and is currently recording in Germany, said he was delighted to be back on the box and is looking forward to the show but not necessarily the competition.

He'll be up against Gloria Gaynor, Howard Jones, The Honeyz and Tiffany.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to it, dead excited. But I'm a bit nervous being up against Gloria Gaynor. Her single is one of the biggest anthems of all time. It's played at every wedding, every party and every karaoke and something that's really deep in the nation's psyche.

"But you never know and I'm looking forward to performing. I'm not thinking about winning." The new show called "Hit Me Baby One More Time" starts on Saturday April 2 and sees a weekly knock-out of artists until a grand final on May 21.

Limahl who had two of the biggest hits of the 80s with "Too Shy" and "Never Ending Story" won't say which songs he's performing but has promised to make sure the first show is a memorable one. The pop star has already got some experience of TV talent shows.

He reached the semi-final of German show Die Grosse Chance last year and is working on a new album in the hope more success is round the corner.

He added: "I really hope so. I've got some great new stuff and, live, I'm as good as ever. "I'm 46, I look 36 and I feel 26. I've just got a lot more experience and I really am looking forward to the future."
